Notes on listening online:
The "Listen Online" links above are direct links to the radio stations online streaming servers. Most
radio stations use one of two main players, RealPlayer or Windows Media Player. These players are downloadable
and fairly easy to install. A word of caution is the use of cookies and information these programs can collect
from you and send it to database servers to track your listening habits, among other things.
Audio Players:
RealPlayer/RealOne (Real) - This is the player that started it all. A word of caution is that this player
uses cookies and other items to send your listening habits and who knows what else to their servers.
Windows Media Player (WMA) - This player is from Microsoft and provides very good quality audio.
StreamAudio - This service is not a separate player, but a custom version of the Windows Media Player.
It has some neat features, showing album covers and additional details, but at the cost of dealing with pop-up ad windows,
listening to an initial low-res video commercial, and watching banner adds at the bottom of the non-resizeable window.
HiWire - This is another customized player, this time Real Player 8 (although the site says WMP), from the ad streaming company hiwire.
This version is compact, and although it has banner ad capability, there are no pop-up windows or forced commercial ads to begin.
You have to register to listen, but it seems to be anonymous except for sex and age.
You then select an initial stream and at any time can also change the streams (stations).
