What Is Awana?
Awana is a Bible-centered children's program that makes Scripture memorization fun. Its purpose is best stated in the Awana Pledge: "to reach boys girls with the gospel of Christ, and train them to serve Him." On arriving at a typical Awana gathering, the children are assigned to age-appropriate groups that engage in a variety of fun activities.
Assembly - Club night begins with a fast-paced, large group rally where clubbers enjoy music, pledges, and general announcements to start the club evening.
Game Time - The group is then separated into "clubs" where they engage in age-appropriate games that teach sportsmanship and values in team competition. (30 minutes)
Handbook Time - Bible verses and principles are presented through "handbook" instruction. The children study at their own pace, as they are given support and assistance from the club leaders. Awards are given as the clubber progresses through the handbook to further reinforce the learning process and encourage the child. (30 minutes)
Council Time - Each group meets as a separate club for a time of listening to a special Bible message and application, praise and prayer. (30 minutes)

Achievement Awards
To encourage achievement, clubbers can earn a variety of colorful awards as they progress through their Handbook exercises. Each clubber can work at their own pace and will be encouraged by their leaders and parents.
Every Awana clubber has the opportunity to earn awards. The awards are designed to be worn on the Awana uniform and include: badges, seals, pins, "jewels," and insignia patches. Ribbons, plaques, and trophies are also awarded at inter-church competitions and at the end of the Awana year.

Participation Costs
A registration fee of $15 per child ($45 maximum per family) is requested to assist with the costs of yearly materials, wards, special events' costs, etc. Scholarships are available.
In addition, children also need club uniforms and handbooks during the year. Uniforms for the club consist of vests (Cubbies and Sparks) or shirts (T&T) and should be worn to all club meetings. Most uniforms can be worn for 2-3 years before they are outgrown.
Uniforms are purchased after the child has completed the introductory memorization exercises in the Entrance Booklet. This generally requires 3-4 weeks of preparation and club participation.
Handbooks are vital to the Awana program. Handbooks provide Bible verses and principles through interactive instruction.
An Awana Secretary will provide you with a note containing details of uniform and handbook purchases when they are required.

Parents as Partners
Your support as parents is very important in order that your child gain the most from Awana. You can help by:
- encouraging them to come each week.
- helping them memorize the verses in at least one section of their handbook each week.
- showing excitment over their achievements.
- communicating any special needs to leaders.
At designated times, clubbers receive extra Awana "Bucks" (or points) if their parents have listened to and initialed their handbook following a memorized passage. Together, we are partners in children's ministries. We welcome you to visit our club meetings anytime. If you are interested in becoming an Awana leader, a "listener," have questions, or need more information, please contact the church.
