Crabapple First Baptist Church is an autonomous body of believers who live and gather under the Lordship of Jesus Christ.  We affirm the Bible as the authoritative and sufficient source for all of our beliefs and practices.  We submit to the control of no other outside authority, ecclesiastical or secular.  Nevertheless, in addition to the following statement of faith, our church generally ascribes to the doctrinal statement in The Baptist Faith and Message as adopted by the Southern Baptist Convention on June 14, 2000.

  1. We believe that the Bible is the divinely inspired and revealed Word of God.  (II Timothy 3:16-17)
  2. We believe that God is the Holy Trinity: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.  (Genesis 3:22; Matthew 3:16-17; Matthew 28:19-20; II Corinthians 13:14; Acts 5:3-4; John 10:30; John 14:16; Romans 1:7; Hebrews 1:8)
  3. We believe that God the Father, the first Person of the Trinity, so loved mankind that He initiated redemption through His Only Begotten Son, Jesus Christ, and that He sent His Spirit to guide, comfort and improve the believer for Christian living and witness.  He is Father to those who have received by faith, Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.   He is Creator of, and Sustainer of the Universe through His Son.  He is Sovereign over His creation.  (Romans 1:7; John 3:16; Galatians 4:4; John 14:16-17; John 15:26; John 1:12; Ephesians 4:6; Hebrews 1:2; Genesis 1:1; Matthew 19:26)
  4. We believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Eternal Son of the Living God, the Savior of men, born of a virgin, equal with the Father in every divine perfection, and the Lord of every Christian.  The Lord Jesus Christ died on the cross, was buried, rose again the third day, ascended to the right hand of God the Father where He now sits in glory as our Mediator.  The return of the Lord Jesus Christ will be visible and personal.  He has taught us to live in readiness to meet Him.  (Matthew 16:13-17; John 8:58; Luke 1:35; John 19:7; Luke 2:11; Acts 16:31; Hebrews 9:24; Acts 2:32-36; I Thessalonians 4:16; I John 3:2; Matthew 25:13)
  5. We believe that the Holy Spirit is a Person, equal with the Father and the Son in every divine perfection; He convicts of sin, regenerates, enlightens, endues for service, comforts and guides believers.  (John 14:26; Acts 5:3-4; I Corinthians 3:16; John 16:8-11; John 3:5; Acts 1:8; II Timothy 1:7; John 14:16-18)
  6. We believe that all have sinned and therefore are in need of salvation. (Romans 3:9-23)
  7. We believe that salvation is by grace alone and is free to all who surrender to the Lord Jesus Christ through repentance and faith.  All who have been born again are eternally secure and will persevere to the end.  (Ephesians 2:8-9; John 3:16; Acts 2:38; John 10:27-29)
  8. We believe that salvation precedes Scriptural baptism and church membership. Christ personally instituted the Church, which He commissioned to make disciples of all nations, to baptize believers, and to teach them to do all things that He commanded.  There are only two Scriptural ordinances: believer baptism and the Lord’s Supper.  (Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 8:35-38; Matthew 16:18; I Corinthians 11:23-25)
  9. We believe that there are only two classes of people in God’s sight, the saved and the lost.  The saved shall live eternally in conscious blessedness in heaven; the unsaved shall suffer in conscious punishment in hell forever.  (John 5:24; John 3:26; Romans 1:18; John 14:1-2; Revelation 20:11-15; Revelation 21:1-8)
